Remembrance Day

Canada, Remembrance for the men and women who have served!
Canadians recognize Remembrance Day, originally called Armistice Day, every 11 November at 11 a.m. It marks the end of hostilities during the First World War and an opportunity to recall all those who have served in the nation’s defence.
Remembrance Day rejuvenated interest in recalling the war and military sacrifice. It remained a day to honour the fallen, but traditional services also witnessed occasional calls to remember the horror of war and to embrace peace.

The Lunenburg port

Canada/Lunenburg-Nova Scotia, The Lunenburg port!
Lunenburg is a port town in Nova Scotia, Canada. Situated on the province's South Shore at the western side of Mahone Bay.
The town was established by the four founding fathers, Patrick Sutherland, Dettlieb Christopher Jessen, John Creighton and Jean-Baptiste Moreau four years after Halifax was established.
The town was one of the first British attempts to settle Protestants in Nova Scotia intended to displace Mi'kmaq and Acadian Catholics.
The historic town was designated a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site in 1995. This designation ensures protection for much of Lunenburg's unique architecture and civic design, being the best example of planned British colonial settlement in Canada. The historic core of the town is also a National Historic Site of Canada.

Pow-Wow dancers

Canada/Kahnawake, A man is looking at Pow-Wow dancers!
A pow-wow is a social gathering held by many different Native communities. A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event for Native people to meet and dance, sing, socialize, and honor their cultures. There is generally a dancing competition, with many different types of traditional dances, music and regalia, often with significant prize money awarded.
This is a time to renew thoughts of the old ways and to preserve a rich heritage. Originally a Pow-wow, or “celebration” as it was called in the old days, was held in the spring to welcome the new beginnings of life. Often different tribal nations would come together for the occasion.

Trees covered with snow

Canada/Montreal, Trees covered with snow!
Snow interacts with vegetation in two principal ways, vegetation can influence the deposition and retention of snow and, conversely, the presence of snow can affect the distribution and growth of vegetation.
Tree branches, especially of conifers intercept falling snow and prevent accumulation on the ground. Snow suspended in trees ablates more rapidly than that on the ground, owing to its greater exposure to sun and air movement.
